WELCOME TO YOUTH FOR EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP FORUM (YELF)
YOUTH FOR EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP FORUM (YELF) MARCH 22ND, 2008 SEMINAR/CONFERENCE REPORT
As an NGO and non profit making, Youth for Effective Leadership Forum (YELF) is an initiative born in January 2008 under Eden Readers club of Nigeria (ERCON) with the intent to spell out clearly to the leaders of our great nation and nations of Africa that young people in a way of reclaiming their rights and contributing to nation building have come out in voices and action to make leadership effective. So that its effectiveness turns round to impact on their integral development projects, lead to literacy advancement and reduce poverty to a minimal bearing level.
The first Educational and Empowerment seminar/ conference organized under this project-YELF was a superb one as a reasonable number of youth within the state turned up and participated in the event that took place on the 22nd of March , 2008 at Albakans pre-science private school, Tudun Wada Jos.
An event which commence at about 11:30 in the morning featured many series of activities that took it through too much times until 3:00 in the evening.
After opening prayer by a volunteer youth, welcome remarks by Vice President Andrew Igbokwe,
Jokes and music, and introduction of special guests to the high table, the president of the initiative: Amedu Monday Amedu was called forward to give opening speech by the M.C. of the event Mr. Kingsley Obida, who works with the State radio House (90.5 Peace FM) as a presenter. Handling the microphone, Amedu Monday abruptly ran through the background information of the project, charged and motivated the participating youth to take the conference seriously and work hard daily to fulfill their social responsibilities and know that change must start from them, their immediate communities, especially Tudun – Wada – the project base, which he called “Nazareth”.
The event was well attended by young people from different tribes and organizations within the state of Plateau and attendance was free to all participants, plus conference materials, intense trainings, refreshments, and lectures also offered free of no financial commitment on the side of our participants as the initiative is a not for profit making but for impact making sort of. At the end of the day it was a life changing, wonderful and spirit renewing conference / seminar as about five papers were presented by members of the organization – YELF.
The first paper, which contained the “members’ declaration and affirmation” of Youth for Effective Leadership Forum was presented by Gideon Kudoji. 2nd paper was presented by Emmanuel Chukwu on “the negative effects of drug abuse”, the third paper was themed: “YELF, social responsibility in ensuring leadership progress”, it was presented by Wisdom Nwosu. Followed by the fourth paper, with the title “corruption, the obstacle to good governance and youth empowerment”, it was presented by Mohammed Nurudeen. The nine (9) goals of the project were read out by Dorcas Clifford after which the president of the forum, Amedu M. Amedu, in a lecture presented the detailed (5th) paper on the concept of Youth for Effective Leadership Forum (YELF).
The paper was titled, “effective leadership for youth integral
development, a bane for literacy and poverty reduction,” and covered action points as: Introduction, definition of paper’s key words, project descriptions and rationale, leadership problem findings and analysis, project strategies & activities, anticipated goals / impacts, discussion & conclusion and points for referencing. However, there were other spicing up presentations that were featured in between sessions to make the event lively and fun. During these times, a renowned stand up comedian Henry Madaki did his kind of thing to lessen the stress of participants through laughter.
Other young talented artists also sang and rapped different songs that made everyone lifting their hands in expression of interests and acceptance. Noticeable among the artists were the group: Youth with Positive Minds, Sati John (settle clear artist) and other individuals.
After refreshment and questions and answers sessions, the participants at the
empowerment seminar / conference were divided into 3 sections for interactive session on education and effective leadership. How that influences youth integral development, environmental sustainability and societal positive change.
That session was proceeded by drafting and submission of resolutions by all groups and presentations of same were made on the way forward by leaders of each group.
Event closed with a vote of thanks (closing remarks) from the president and closing prayer was made by Yakubu Habila. The event also had other active members like Prince Danladi Nyam and Musa Luka at the monitoring and officiating corner. Many invited dignitaries and stakeholders grace the occasion in persons, while others were represented. News agencies like the National Mirror, Financial Standard, Abuja Inquirer and National Orientation Agency came, collected information for publishing of communiqué on their papers.
